HRC Makes A Difference
At the Home Rule Coalition, we don’t just advocate—we activate. From town halls to the Capitol, we mobilize residents, partner with local leaders, and organize strategic actions that protect community control. Whether it’s in person, testimony, or digital campaigns, HRC is on the frontlines defending your voice in local government.
Activations
Rezoning Roulette
is a statewide campaign opposing Tallahassee’s dangerous power grab over local land use and zoning. A slate of proposed bills—HB 943, SB 184, HB 247, SB 1128, and HB 1035—would strip cities and counties of their ability to decide how their communities grow. These bills override local voices, fast-track developer interests, and threaten neighborhoods safety, affordability, and accountability. We believe in Home Rule: that decisions about housing, development, and infrastructure belong to the people who live there. Join us to protect local control and stop Tallahassee from gambling with our communities.
Don't Centralize the Charge
is a statewide campaign opposing HB 651, a bill that strips local governments of their ability to regulate electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure. By giving full control to the state and utility monopolies, HB 651 blocks cities and counties from planning charging networks that meet their communities’ needs. It threatens innovation, access, and equity—especially in underserved areas—and undermines local clean energy goals. Floridians deserve more choices, not fewer. This campaign mobilizes EV drivers, local leaders, and advocates to demand local control and defeat HB 651 before it takes the power out of the people’s hands.
Time To Rethink the Bell
is a statewide campaign supporting HB 261 and SB 296, which restore local control over school start times in Florida. While the intent behind the current mandate is rooted in student well-being, the one-size-fits-all approach has created real challenges for families, school districts, and students. From disrupted transportation and childcare routines to reduced after-school opportunities, the impacts are widespread. This campaign empowers parents, students, and educators to advocate for solutions that reflect their community’s needs—bringing parental voice and district choice back to the table.
Keep Florida Beaches Public
is a statewide advocacy campaign mobilizing Floridians to support SB 284, SB 1622, and HB 6043 — legislation that restores public access to our beaches through the legal principle of Recreational Customary Use. After the 2018 passage of HB 631 weakened local authority, many communities saw public beach access restricted by private interests. This campaign empowers coastal residents, local governments, and beachgoers to reclaim their rights, demand legislative action, and protect Florida’s shoreline traditions for future generations. Through grassroots outreach, digital advocacy, and policy pressure, we’re making it clear: the beach belongs to everyone.
Let Locals Light Up…Or Not
is a statewide campaign by the Home Rule Coalition opposing Florida’s SB 226, which strips local governments of their authority to regulate smoking and vaping in public spaces. The campaign defends the principle that communities—not Tallahassee—should decide where smoking is allowed in their parks, beaches, and public areas. What works for one city may not work for another, and local leaders are best positioned to balance public health, safety, and community values. This campaign urges lawmakers to preserve home rule and let locals decide how—and whether—they want to light up in their own communities.
